We will all be heavy into haying season as you get this message and I wish all
our MCA members and fellow producers great success with putting up hay and
harvesting. We’ve had some good rains, but we’re ‘not out of the woods’ yet as
we’ve had a relatively dry Winter and Spring, and even Cascade County has been
declared a Drought 2 county, so don’t forget to check on support programs for
your livestock and forage needs.
John Fahlgren, director in the eastern district and John Wagner, director in the
central district have resigned. Thank you to John Fahlgren and John Wagner for
their service as MCA directors and we appreciate their contributions, especially
to our last Cattlemen’s Days in Great Falls. John Fahlgren helped host a very
informative discussion on BLM, public lands and Bison. Last December John
Wagner organized our discussion on critical estate planning and sustainability
with a great panel that included Taylor Brown, Joe Goggins and Walt Schweitzer
of Montana Farmers Union.
Thanks to Steve Held, a fourth generation rancher from the Broadus area and
our newest Board Director for Eastern Montana, who was approved by the
whole board to ll John Fahlgren’s position. Steve will be a great addition to
MCA.
We have a central division board position open and we welcome our MCA
members to apply for this position. We have monthly board meetings, either on
ZOOM or conference calls. MCA needs all the participation from members to
move forward with some new ideas.
Lastly, MCA will continue to produce our quarterly newsletter that’s had superb
content and very useful articles for producers, written by our board members
and articles our Treasurer Jan McDonald has collected. We welcome sponsors
for ads that help defray costs. MCA hopes to continue to inform and educate
producers with our newsletter. MCA has always invited members to place ads
for items “for sale” in our newsletter at no cost, but “camera ready” data is
required. We also invite advertising for outside businesses. The cost is nominal
and the rate sheet is available from any board member. “Camera ready” data is
also required for this.
